Thoughts To Ponder On A Monday

Life is precious and sweet.... and your children and mine are on my heart today....

Life is so precious,
And each day is a gift.
So enjoy every minute,
As it were your last to live.

Cherish your loved ones,
Hug them tight,
Share with them your heart,
And your time.

Nothing is forever,
And life goes so fast,
Each minute that passes,
Is one you can’t get back.

When troubles arrive,
And knock you off your feet,
Stand up and smile,
And remember life is too sweet.

Every morning when you wake,
Decide right from the start,
That “Today will be a good day”
And let it all in with an open heart.

Reading: April 23

We are working on the following styles of poetry:

Haiku
Five Senses

We have one style left to study...Who, What, When, Where, Why poems

The students are composing again one to three poems for each style of poetry. There will be nine styles. They need to find one to three poems that have been published by other poets. We will be wrapping this up the second week of May as we compile our poems and do some critiques as well as create table of contents.

They are going to need to ask your opinion on their work as well.

Math: April 23

We successfully made it through MCA testing in Math. Please graciously reward your child for their achievements and hard work. Each student in my room for testing worked extremely hard and to the best of their ability.

We have now jumped back into our math book--studying patterns. Today, we studied Frieze Patterns. A frieze is a pattern which repeats in one direction. Friezes are often seen as ornaments in architecture. There are seven different frieze patterns possible. The picture above is a sample.

Enjoy your weekend.

Reading April 19

We have mastered the art of several styles of poetry now. We are working feverishly on them. I try to introduce two styles a week and have them work on their poems. Some of the kids are typing at home and some are typing here in the lab and some are just hand writing them. Perfect. Each poem needs a picture and needs to be presented nicely. Each style requires one poem submitted but they may submit up to 4 poems for more points.

Good job on working hard for the MCAS! It was a long two days of testing. We survived.

Creature Alliteration Poem

Principalian

This is a principalian.

Principalians live in perfect, purple, Pyrex pyramids on the plains of Peru.

Principalians politely eat pudding pops, pickled pig feet with pepper on plates while drinking Pepsi. They also love pepperoni pizza.

Principalians poke peas with pencils, ponder perplexing puzzles, and perform perilous procedures on penguins.

Principalians pose for pictures while printing poetry, practice perspective and paint pottery. They persuade people to purchase perfume.

This principalian prescribed a painless pill for me and panicked when I pretended to perish.
